Roberto is a Research Director at ISTI-CNR, an Institute of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), where he leads the Visual Computing Laboratory. He graduated in Computer Science at the University of Pisa in 1984, and has been involved in Computer Graphics since then. Since 1990 he had joint appointments at the Department of Computer Engineering and at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Pisa, where he taught computer graphics courses. He is currently engaged in research projects concerned with 3D scanning, surface reconstruction, multiresolution data modeling and rendering, scientific visualization and applications to cultural heritage. He published more than hundred fifty papers in international refereed journals/conferences and gave invited lectures or courses on visualization and graphics at international conferences. He served in the programme committees of several Eurographics workshops and conferences; he Co-Chaired or organized EG events (Eurographics Conference 1999, EG Rendering 2002, EG SGP 2004, EG SGP 2006, EG 2008). Since 2001 he is Chief Editor of the Computer Graphics Forum Journal (with Eduard Groeller), and also Member of the Editorial Board of ACM J. on Computers and Cultural Heritage. He has served as reviewer in numerous national and international conferences and journals. He is member of Eurographics (EG). He has been elected member of the EG Executive Committee on 2001, appointed Vice Chair in 2003 and will serve as Chair of the association on 2009-2010.
