{"id":1981,"date":"2020-07-11T11:48:08","date_gmt":"2020-07-11T11:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eg.org\/wp\/?page_id=1981"},"modified":"2020-07-11T11:48:08","modified_gmt":"2020-07-11T11:48:08","slug":"new-fellows-2003","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.eg.org\/wp\/fellows\/new-fellows-2003\/","title":{"rendered":"New Fellows 2003"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>Hans-Peter Seidel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\nHans-Peter Seidel has been a member of the Association\n\t    since 1988.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nHe is the scientific director and chair of the computer\ngraphics group at the Max-Planck-Institut Informatik and\na professor of computer science at the University of Saarbr\u00fccken,\nGermany. He is an adjunct professor of computer\nscience at the University of Erlangen, Germany, and at the\nUniversity of Waterloo, Canada. The Saarbr\u00fccken computer\ngraphics group was established in 1999 and currently consists\nof three faculty, sixteen researchers and five post doctoral\nresearchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before joining the Max-Planck-Institut in 1999, Seidel\nwas on the faculty of the University of Erlangen, Germany,\nfrom 1992 to 1999, where he was the co-director of the\ngraduate centre on 3D image analysis and synthesis and\nco-chair of the federal research centre (Sonderforschungsbereich)\n\u2018Model-based analysis and visualization of complex\nscenes and sensor data\u2019. Prior to this he was a faculty\nmember of the University of Waterloo, Canada, from 1989\nto 1992. He received his PhD in mathematics and his habilitation\nin computer science, both from T\u00fcbingen University,\nin 1987 and 1989 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nSeidel\u2019s current research interests include computer\ngraphics, geometric modelling, freeform curves and surfaces,\nsurface reconstruction, efficient polygonal meshes,\nmesh reduction, multi-resolution modelling, image synthesis,\nglobal illumination computations, image-based and\nhardware-accelerated rendering, visualization of complex\nmedical and engineering data, 3D image analysis and synthesis,\nand foundations of virtual reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nHe has published some 150 technical papers in the field\nand has lectured widely on these topics. he has regularly\nserved on editorial boards and on the technical programme\ncommittees of some of the leading computer graphics conferences\nsuch as ACM SIGGRAPH, EUROGRAPHICS,\nGraphics Interface and Pacific Graphics. He has received\ngrants from a wide range of organizations, including the\nGerman National Science Foundation (DFG), the European\nCommunity (EU), NATO, and the German-Israel Foundation\n(GIF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nIn 2002 he was awarded the \u2018Leibniz Preis\u2019, the most prestigious\nresearch award from the German Research Foundation.\nSeidel is the first computer graphics researcher to receive\nthis award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hans-Peter Seidel was proposed for Fellowship of the Association\nin recognition of:\t    \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>his international scientific standing and contributions to\nthe development of computer graphics in Europe and\nworld-wide;<\/li><li>his contributions to EUROGRAPHICS through his role\nas Editor-in-Chief of <em>Computer Graphics Forum<\/em>, as a\nmember of the Executive Committee and as organizer and\nprogramme co-chair of the highly successful EG 2002\nannual event.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hans-Peter Seidel Hans-Peter Seidel has been a member of the Association since 1988.
