Steve Cunningham

Robert Stephen (Steve) Cunnigham (1942-2015) was an American computer scientist and Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at California State University, Stanislaus. Cunningham’s research interests included Computer Graphics, specifically Computer Graphics Education, Computer Science Education, and Computer Visualization in learning mathematics. He received several awards and honors – a Fellow of the European Association for Computer Graphics (1998), the Outstanding Professor for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity, CSU Stanislaus (2001), the Gemperle Distinguished Professor, CSU Stanislaus (2001), and the ACM SIGGRAPH Outstanding Contribution Award (2004).
Steve was widely recognized for his passion and service to the computer graphics community, particularly in education. Steve Cunningham co-authored/co-edited six books on graphics-related subjects. He was the founding Chair of the Eurographics Education Board in 2001.
Best Education Paper Award
Starting from 2026, this award is given to the best paper in the Education program of the annual Eurographics conference. The evaluation committee consists of Education program co-chair(s) and selected members of the Eurographics Education Board. The committee considers both the technical quality of the papers and their live presentations.
