Graphics and Cultural Heritage

Active since 2003 · 24 editions

The EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage (GCH) aims to foster an international dialogue between ICT experts and CH scientists to have a better understanding of the critical requirements for processing, managing, and delivering cultural information to a broader audience. The objective of the workshop is to present and showcase new developments within the overall process chain, from data acquisition, analysis and synthesis, 3D documentation, and data management, to new forms of interactive presentations and 3D printing solutions. Interdisciplinary approaches for analysis, classification and interpretation of cultural artefacts are particularly relevant to the event.

Organisation

The aim of the EG Working Group on Graphics and Cultural Heritage is to promote the discussion and exchange of information between researchers on Visual Media technologies and the Cultural Heritage community (scholars in arts and humanities, museum curators, restorers, etc). We aim at working at the crossing between the technological domain (design of new methodologies and technologies for digitizing, processing, visualizing and storing visual data) and the application domain (innovative methodologies based on technological tools, use of visual tools for solving CH problems and improving insight and comprehension capabilities).

The main activity of the WG is to supervise the organization of the annual Eurographics Symposium on Graphics and Cultural Heritage (GCH). The symposium was started in year 2003, co-organized with VAST in the first ten editions. The GCH Symposium is an independent event since 2013. In year 2013 and 2015 it was part of the federated conference Digital Heritage.

Other aims of the WG are fostering contacts for new activities (such as cooperative research projects), and providing a repository for shared resources.
