EuroVis Young Researcher Award 2022 – Renata Raidou

Renata Raidou completed her doctoral degree in medical visualization from Eindhoven University of Technology in 2017. She was later a Post-Doc researcher at TU Wien (2017-2020). In 2020, she was appointed assistant professor at the University of Groningen. In 2021, she returned to TU Wien as assistant professor. She has a many high-level journal publications and peer-reviewed conference papers, indicating that she is one of the most active early-career researchers in (biomedical) visualization. In 2017 she received the Dirk Bartz Prize for Visual Computing in Medicine (1st place). She also obtained the Best Ph.D. award of the EuroVis awards program in 2018.

Renata’s research in biomedical visualization focuses on the interface between visual analytics, image processing, and machine learning. Her specific domains of expertise are comparative visual analytics and ensemble/uncertainty visualization. In her research, she also covers topics, such as visual analytics for cultural and materials science, and fabrication and augmented reality for educational purposes. The main corpus of her research is on visual analytics to support cancer radiotherapy and to improve patient treatment.

Renata has been taking an active role in services for the visualization community. She has served/serves as part of the organization committee and program committees of several of the major conferenes in our fiels such as EuroVis, IEEE VIS, PacificVis, and Eurographics. She has also given numerous highly appreciated talks at conferences and invited lectures in research groups all over the world.

Renata is dedicated to supporting students and new researchers in (biomedical) visualization. As an example, she recently co-organized the successful panel “Why should I stay in academia? Bridging generations of researchers in visualization” to raise awareness on reasons why young researchers abandon academia, and to provide a platform for interaction across generations in our community.

EuroVis is pleased to award the EuroVis Young Researcher Award 2022 to Renata Raidou In recognition of her outstanding contributions to biomedical visualization with exemplary foundation and application in medical research, practice and education.
