Dear Eurographics members,
on January 1st I took the post of being the president of the Eurographics Association. First, I want to thank Marie-Paul for her great work and terrific commitment in the last two years. I guess Eurographics is on a good way and even though we have to constantly fight for being attractive enough for graphics and visualization researchers in the future, we have a solid basis. Marie-Paule managed that in a clear and extremely reliable way.
Under her guidance the first Eurographics medals were given out and the Eurographics Junior Fellows were initiated. An important contribution was the renewal of the Eurographics agreement with ACM Siggraph; in particular she was able to find a solution so that workshops like SCA and HPG are able to publish in Computer Graphics Forum every other year, which is important for our research community. During her time the first agreement with Asia-Graphics was signed, also a very important strategic contribution.
In the next months I will try to find my way into the many things that are currently on the table, but with Hamish Carr (secretary), Anna Vilanova-Bartroli and Jean-Michel Dischler (vice presidents) as well as our Treasurer Jean-Jacques Bourdin I have an excellent team – not to forget Marie-Paule as the outgoing chair! We have to find a good new location (country-wise) for the association and I would like to continue bringing European visualization and graphics researchers closer together, an important topic that was also pursued by Marie-Paule. Having Eurographics and Eurovis as a joint conference in 2020 (Norrköping, chaired by Anders Ynnerman) will be a big step in this direction.
I hope to see you all at the Eurographics conference in Genua in May.
Warmest regards,
Oliver Deussen
